Duval County Public Schools released stop-arm camera footage this week showing a car narrowly missing a student stepping off a school bus on North Jefferson Street, according to the district’s website. Watch the video.
“Stopping is not optional,” Chayla Ferguson, district director of transportation, said of the footage.
The video comes from the district’s Bus Stop-Arm Camera Violation Program, which launched in April. Nearly 4,000 citations, each carrying a $225 fine, have been approved since the first day of school Aug. 10, according to the district.
State law requires drivers in all directions to stop for a school bus with its stop-arm extended, unless separated by a physical median.
