Dedication marks completion of Historic American Beach Water and Sewer Project

At the American Beach Community Center on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, Nassau County officials held a dedication ceremony for the completion of the Water and Sewer Project.

A small gathering of residents and county officials celebrated the end of a 25-plus-year journey.

Awards were given to the property owners who had served one or two terms on the Water and Sewer Advisory Board: Colleen Hicks, Dr. Eugene Emory, James D. Staton Jr., Joseph Hayman, Ruth Waters and Tony Brown. The committee was chaired by 40-plus-year resident Erving Gilyard.

Commissioner A.M. “Hupp” Huppmann and other Nassau officials commended the American Beach Community for its perseverance to have water and sewer become a reality. They highlighted the community’s request stressed health concerns related to leaking septics, threat of fire destroying community with lack of fire hydrants, and property values. All of the streets were also paved as a part of this project.

As part of the dedication, Nassau County officials debuted a video capturing two journeys: water and sewer and Historic American Beach. Light refreshments were served.
