Eva Sonnenberg-Matthews, political science instructor and research coordinator at UNF, will discuss the art and science of polling at the Coastal Friends luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The presentation will cover the role of public opinion research in elections and the policy process, including why it’s important, what goes into conducting a poll, some long-standing and new challenges, and what to look out for as a consumer of polling data.

The luncheon will be held at Marsh Landing Country Club, 25655 Marsh Landing Parkway, Ponte Vedra Beach, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In keeping with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the menu will include spinach and goat cheese salad, turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie with Cool Whip.

The cost to attend is $25 and the lunch is open to Coastal Friends members and guests, as well as the community. Reservations must be made in advance by contacting the luncheon chairman at bartshar@comcast.net. The deadline for checks to be received is Friday, Oct. 31.

Established in 1998, Coastal Friends (formerly Newcomers Alumnae) is a social club for women who live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, St. Augustine and Jacksonville and the surrounding area.
