Dear Ponte Vedra NewsLine<\/em> readers,<\/p>\n

I want to personally thank each of you for making us your community newspaper. This month\u00a0marks the 15th anniversary of the first issue of our first newspaper serving northern St. Johns\u00a0County. Since then our family of newspapers has grown to include six community newspapers,\u00a0including Ponte Vedra NewsLine.<\/em><\/p>\n

The years since we began publishing have straddled some of the most tumultuous events of our\u00a0lifetimes, from 9\/11 through two wars and the Great Recession and we\u2019ve survived by staying\u00a0focused on the news and events that happened here.<\/p>\n

During those years I first covered news here as a reporter and editor for the daily papers, then\u00a0as managing editor and editor of a Ponte Vedra weekly newspaper for several years.<\/p>\n

Now, as publisher of the only newspaper mailed to every household in Ponte Vedra Beach,\u00a0South Ponte Vedra, Palm Valley and Nocatee, I\u2019m proud to say we don\u2019t just cover Ponte\u00a0Vedra, we\u2019re a part of it.<\/p>\n

Your concerns are our concerns. Your triumphs are our triumphs. And we appreciate your\u00a0loyalty and support.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably noticed that we\u2019ve made some changes. Beginning with the nameplate at the\u00a0top of page one, we\u2019ve given Ponte Vedra NewsLine<\/em> the ink and paper equivalent of an oil\u00a0change and a fresh coat of paint. We\u2019ve also rethought what it means to be your community\u00a0newspaper.<\/p>\n

We are changing the dates on the top of the paper. Ponte Vedra NewsLine<\/em> will continue to be a\u00a0monthly newspaper, but we are realigning our distribution dates to ensure the news you receive\u00a0is timelier.<\/p>\n

Over the years our publication date drifted and sometimes you received your newspaper after\u00a0the beginning of the month. Occasionally \u201chappenings\u201d had already happened by the time you\u00a0read about them.<\/p>\n

We thought the New Year was a good time to set things right. This issue we\u2019re calling January-February, but you will receive your March issue before March 1, and every issue that follows\u00a0before the first of the month.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve also placed a new emphasis on the quality of our reporting and storytelling.<\/p>\n

When the Circulation Verification Council surveyed Ponte Vedra residents it reported that more\u00a0than 98 percent of you receive Ponte Vedra NewsLine,<\/em> more than 80 percent of households\u00a0regularly read Ponte Vedra NewsLine<\/em> and 79 percent regularly buy products or services from\u00a0ads in Ponte Vedra NewsLine.<\/em><\/p>\n

Those are readership numbers most publications can only dream of. To better serve our\u00a0readers \u2014 and our advertisers \u2014 we\u2019ve recruited a stable of talented writers and photographers\u00a0to help us better cover the news, craft better features and show you the faces, places and\u00a0events in Ponte Vedra, Nocatee and Palm Valley.<\/p>\n

Among other changes you can see are a clean new look that makes Ponte Vedra NewsLine\u00a0<\/em>easier on the eyes and easier for you to integrate into your busy lives. Our new four-column\u00a0layout opens up the page and makes it easier to read.<\/p>\n

The front page now offers multiple points of entry to help you quickly find the stories you care\u00a0about, as does the index on page two. We\u2019ve recently added a crossword and other puzzles\u00a0and have reintroduced classified ads, which we will soon expand.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll still find the \u201crefrigerator magnet\u201d stories and photos that are our bread and butter.\u00a0Schools, local sports, community organizations and charity events will be featured in every\u00a0issue, and now we\u2019ve added an event calendar you can save to keep you up to date on local\u00a0happenings throughout the month.<\/p>\n

The nameplate at the top of the front page sports a fresh new logo and now includes a nod to\u00a0the family of community newspapers that includes Ponte Vedra NewsLine. Florida NewsLine<\/em> is\u00a0comprised of six hyper-local publications that combined reach more First Coast readers than\u00a0any single newspaper (yes, including that one).<\/p>\n

Not everything is new. Our news font is based on a design that was old when Shakespeare\u00a0published his first play. Davey Wiggins is still lost somewhere in each issue. Advertising\u00a0Executive Marcy Mickler is still here and Editor Martie Thompson has been here since the first\u00a0issue. Both have played integral roles in our redesign and will continue to help steer us toward\u00a0the future.<\/p>\n

But we\u2019re not through making changes. Now it\u2019s your turn to tell us what features you would like\u00a0to see in your community newspaper. Please email your thoughts and suggestions to me at\u00a0publisher@floridanewsline.com<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t close without mentioning PonteVedraNewsLine.com, which has been completely\u00a0redesigned as a mobile-friendly, responsive website regularly updated with new content,\u00a0including stories and features that you won\u2019t find in the print edition. You\u2019ll also find a .pdf of the\u00a0latest issue in case you want to direct out-of-town loved ones to a picture or story they might\u00a0want to hang on their refrigerator.<\/p>\n
