This edition marks the 15<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary of the first edition of <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i>. I want to personally thank each of you for making us your community newspaper over the past decade and a half.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those years straddled some of the most tumultuous events of this century, from 9\/11 through two wars and the Great Recession; we\u2019ve survived by staying focused on the news and events that happened here in our own community.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve watched a handful of competitors come and go and we\u2019re still here. I\u2019m certain the reason <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> has survived while other papers have withered and died is that we\u2019re not just about this community, we\u2019re a part of it. <\/span><\/p>\n

We drive the same roads, our kids attend the same schools and we worship in the same places. Your concerns are our concerns. Your triumphs are our triumphs. And without your loyalty and support we would not be here today. <\/span><\/p>\n

Unless you just moved here, you\u2019ve probably noticed that we\u2019ve made some changes. Beginning with the nameplate at the top of page one, we\u2019ve given <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> the ink and paper equivalent of an oil change and a fresh coat of paint. But we haven\u2019t just redesigned the paper; we\u2019ve also rethought what it means to be your community newspaper. <\/span><\/p>\n

We are changing the dates on the top of the paper. <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> will continue to be a monthly newspaper, but are realigning our distribution dates to help ensure the news you receive is timelier. <\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years our publication date had drifted to the point that sometimes you were receiving your newspaper long after the beginning of the month and occasionally \u201chappenings\u201d had already happened by the time you read about them. <\/span><\/p>\n

We thought our birthday was a good time to set things right. This issue we\u2019re calling January-February, but you will receive your March issue before March 1, and every issue that follows before the first of the month. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve also placed a new emphasis on the quality of our reporting and storytelling. <\/span><\/p>\n

When the Circulation Verification Council surveyed Northwest St. Johns County residents it reported that more than 98 percent of you receive <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i>, more than 80 percent of households regularly read <\/span>The CreekLine <\/span><\/i>and 79 percent regularly buy products or services from ads in<\/span> The CreekLine.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Those are readership numbers most publications only dream of achieving. To better serve our readers \u2014 and our advertisers \u2014 we\u2019ve increased the separation between our advertising and editorial departments and recruited a stable of talented writers and photographers to help us better cover the news, craft better features and show you the faces, places and events in Northwest St. Johns County. <\/span><\/p>\n

Among the other changes you can see are a clean new look that makes <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> easier on the eyes and easier for you to integrate into your busy lives. Our new four-column layout opens up the page and makes it easier to read. <\/span><\/p>\n

The front page now offers multiple points of entry to help you quickly find the stories you care about, as does the index on page two. We\u2019ve recently added a crossword and other puzzles and have reintroduced classified ads, which we will soon expand.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll still find the \u201crefrigerator magnet\u201d stories and photos that are our bread and butter. Schools, local sports, community organizations and charity events will be featured in every issue, and now we\u2019ve added an event calendar you can save to keep you up to date on local happenings throughout the month. <\/span><\/p>\n

The nameplate at the top of the page sports a fresh new logo and now includes a nod to the family of community newspapers <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> has spawned. <\/span>Florida NewsLine<\/span><\/i> is comprised of six hyper-local publications that combined reach more First Coast readers than any single newspaper (yes, including that one). <\/span><\/p>\n

Not everything is new. We\u2019ve kept that beautiful photo of the docks on Julington Creek from our old nameplate and integrated it into our new look. Our news font is based on a design that was old when Shakespeare published his first play. Davey Wiggins is still lost somewhere in each issue. <\/span><\/p>\n

Advertising Executive Linda Gay has been here since the first issue and Editor Martie Thompson joined <\/span>The CreekLine<\/span><\/i> not long afterward. Both have played integral roles in our redesign and will continue to help steer us toward the future. <\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t close without mentioning TheCreekLine.com, which has been completely redesigned as a mobile-friendly responsive website regularly updated with new content, including stories and features that you won\u2019t find in the print edition. You\u2019ll also find a .pdf of the latest issue in case you want to direct out-of-town loved ones to a picture or story they might want to hang on their refrigerator. <\/span><\/p>\n
