{"id":487,"date":"2016-01-15T12:39:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T17:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/floridanewsline.com\/Clone2\/?p=487"},"modified":"2016-01-15T12:40:28","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T17:40:28","slug":"take-five-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/floridanewsline.com\/Clone2\/first-coast\/take-five-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Five"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Twin Lakes Academy Elementary hosts Curriculum Night and Stakeholders&#8217; meeting<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Twin Lakes Academy Elementary school will give parents and caregivers the opportunity to review and discuss all aspects of the school&#8217;s curriculum at Curriculum Night, to be held on Thursday, Jan. 21<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free school-wide event is open to all Twin Lakes Academy Wildcat students and their families.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teachers have a variety of games, activities and displays in store for all grade levels. Attendees can solve a problem using a life size number bond made out of hula hoops, walk through a story map with their child or play a round of math bingo. Students can also try their hand at coding during the Hour of Code, a fun introduction to computer science. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, the annual Stakeholders&#8217; meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the school&#8217;s media center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At this meeting, Principal Denise Robertson will present the mid-year state of the school report and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input regarding what matters most to support student academic achievement in the school. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Twin Lakes Academy Elementary is located at 8000 Point Meadows Dr.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stakeholder attendees should RSVP to Connie Brooks at brooksc@duvalschools.org by Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>National lecturers to discuss origins of early humans in the Americas<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Archaeological Institute of America \u2013 Jacksonville Society will meet at 12 noon on Jan. 23 in Building 51 at the University of North Florida to find possible answers to one of the most controversial subjects in American archaeology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Archaeological Institute of America lecturers Dr. Steven Holen, an archaeologist and geoarchaeologist, and his wife Dr. Kathleen Holen will discuss the controversy surrounding the topic of the first humans in the Americas and offer new evidence from their research that suggests that humans arrived earlier than previously thought. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The lecture is free and open to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be served afterwards in the Archaeology Lab. Students need meals, a bed (they can share a room), weekday transportation to and from an EF bus stop and lots of English conversation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">International students attend English classes each morning and participate in activities in the afternoon. Evenings and weekends are spent with the host family.
