We know fall has arrived in Florida when we can walk outside at 7 a.m. for the newspaper and not break a sweat. Other sure signs: the onslaught of shades of gold and orange, football fanatics, festivals, and the return of pumpkin spice latte at your favorite coffee shop. Fall is invigorating with a frenzy of activities and it\u2019s the same at Southeast Regional Library. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

October kicks off with new policies on checking out books, overdue fines, and everything that helps get materials in your hands. Highlights include an increase in the maximum balance due on customer accounts from $0 to $10 to remain a customer in good standing. This allows customers with a small balance on their account to continue borrowing materials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The library also increased the number of allowable holds from 20 to 25, which lets loyal customers waiting for popular materials to continue to place holds.\u00a0Ask your librarian about additional policy updates. <\/span><\/p>\n

Take advantage of these new policies when you visit. And join us for these activities and more going on in October.<\/span><\/p>\n

Science Rocks: When it comes to science fair projects, today\u2019s savvy science teachers want more than the run-of-the-mill articles found on Google for project resources. In the science fair help workshop on Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m., students aged nine through 19 can learn how to use the library\u2019s free scientific research databases to impress teachers and judges with a well researched and documented project. <\/span><\/p>\n

Budding Scientists is a fun interactive science program. With the direction of the Atlantic Coast High School Science National Honor Society, kids aged five through 12 will explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts with hands-on projects. Budding Scientists takes place on Duval County early dismissal Wednesdays through February 2017. The dates for this month are Oct. 12 and 26 at 3:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Read for the Record: Save the date, we can \u201cbearly\u201d wait. Join us on Oct. 27 to help break the world record again as we read \u201cThe Bear Ate Your Sandwich.\u201d Be a part of millions across the globe to read the same book on the same day during Jumpstart\u2019s Read for the Record. Ask the youth librarians for more details. <\/span><\/p>\n

Crochet Club: On Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. anyone aged nine through 99 can get together to share knowledge, refresh skills or start from square one. Bring supplies if you have them. It will be fun for all generations.<\/span><\/p>\n
