Boy Scout Troop 312, which serves the International Golf Village and County Road 210 areas, received its charter from Memorial Presbyterian Church last fall.\u00a0<\/span>The troop is committed to offering a high adventure experience to the scouts each summer so that all youth will have the opportunity to earn the Boy Scouts of America\u2019s Triple Crown of High Adventure during their years in scouting. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly 30 scouts enjoyed a week of shooting sports, water activities, and nature hikes at Camp Powhatan in Virginia in June while they honed their camping and survival skills. The scouts earned 90 merit badges over the week. Shortly after summer camp ended, seven scouts and three adults headed to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for a 12-day trek, which covered 60 miles and several mountain peaks. Along the way, the scouts participated in black powder rifle shooting, horseback riding, shotgun shooting, rock climbing and rappelling. Last year four of these Scouts completed a 60-mile trek by canoe through the Quetico Provincial Park in Canada as part of their Northern Tier high adventure experience. Next spring, the scouts are planning to complete a week long SCUBA adventure at the Boy Scouts of America\u2019s Sea Base high adventure outpost in the Florida Keys.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to high adventure, the troop will be busy with regular weekend outings this year, including trips to Fort Clinch, Tomoka and Goldhead State Parks, Princess Place Preserve, Camp Shands and Stone Mountain in Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n

The troop is also working to serve the community by visiting residents of the Clyde \u00a0E. Lassen State Veterans\u2019 Nursing Home, planning a troop blood drive, fielding a relay team in the Wolfson 55K challenge and serving meals to the homeless through Dining with Dignity.<\/span><\/p>\n

The troop meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at Pacetti Bay Middle School and the scoutmaster is Robert English. In addition to the Scout Troop, which includes boys aged 11 \u2013 18, the adult leadership is forming a Venture Crew which will include young men and women from aged 14 \u2013 21. The youth of the Venture Crew will also have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities including high adventure treks.<\/span><\/p>\n
