Jeffrey St. Clair, Pittsburgh native and pastor of Mandarin United Methodist Church, has lived in St. Johns County for three years. Initially motivated to move south for his son\u2019s health, St. Clair and his family have come to love the area and community.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his spare time, the pastor enjoys spending time with his family, coaching Jax Fusion 16U fastpitch softball, kayaking and fishing. He took time out of his busy schedule to explain his new outreach program and what he loves about St. Johns County.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. What\u2019s your favorite part of living in St. Johns County?<\/span>
    \n<\/span>I have three: 1) The people. There is a certain \u201csouthern hospitality\u201d that we didn\u2019t see living up north. I find myself saying \u201cyes, ma\u2019am\u201d all the time now, as well as \u201cy\u2019all.\u201d I don\u2019t say \u201cyinz\u201d as much anymore (Pittsburgh slang for \u201cyou all\u201d). 2) The waterways, from the ocean to the Intracoastal to the St. Johns River, it\u2019s all beautiful. 3) The sunrises and sunsets are magnificent.<\/span><\/p>\n

  2. How is Mandarin United Methodist Church different from others you\u2019ve visited or pastored?<\/span>
    \n<\/span>This church is the largest church I have served. We worship around 1200 people each\u00a0Sunday\u00a0and the church is multi-staffed. With that many people, we experience much activity from small groups to community outreach. It\u2019s great to work on a team, as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/span><\/li>\n

  3. Can you tell me about your Fresh Expressions outreach?<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Fresh Expressions is a new form of church in an ever changing culture. The Fresh Expression I lead, \u201cKayaking with Jeff,\u201d is a fresh expression of church. We meet once a month on the water, changing locations each month. Kayaking with Jeff is intentional about reaching people in our community who may not be active in a church community and may never be. We want to bring church to the community. I share a message each time from the kayak and our community has grown from 15 in January to more than 60 last month.   4. What\u2019s a little-known fact about you?<\/span>
    \n<\/span>I bleed black and yellow. I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirates fan. You can see my bright yellow and black Steeler license plate coming from a mile away. It\u2019s nice being from a city that can say it has the most Super Bowl trophies \u2014 although I do root for the Jags if they don\u2019t play the Steelers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  5. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would it be and why?<\/span>
    \n<\/span>My new neighbors coming into St. Johns, because they are going to be a part of this community and it\u2019s good to know each other and be connected. That\u2019s the beauty of community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
