St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, volunteers that serve as public relations liaisons for the chamber, are collecting school supplies through the month of September for the Head Start program at Crookshank Elementary School.<\/p>\n

Items needed include:<\/p>\n

Socks, underwear, hoodies (sizes 3T, 4T, 5T)
\n<\/span>Closed toe shoes (child sizes 8 \u2013 11)
\n<\/span>Backpacks
\n<\/span>Crib size blankets
\n<\/span>Child size jump ropes
\n<\/span>Sidewalk chalk
\n<\/span>Bubbles
\n<\/span>Snacks (crackers, pretzels, dried fruit, granola bars, fruit snacks)
\n<\/span>Scooters, single and tandem tricycles
\n<\/span>Large plastic trucks
\n<\/span>Dry erase markers
\n<\/span>Magna doodles
\n<\/span>Foam puzzles
\n<\/span>Gift cards (Dollar Tree, Walmart, Michael\u2019s, Publix, Winn-Dixie)<\/span><\/p>\n

Items may be dropped off at the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce, 1 News Place #C, St. Augustine; Fidelity Bank, 3570 A1A South, St. Augustine; or Herbie Wiles Insurance, 400 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd., St. Augustine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Head Start was first launched in 1965 with the idea of providing comprehensive health, nutrition and education services to children in poverty. As the program evolved, services expanded to their entire family, providing parental involvement opportunities and education as well as social services that include credit counseling and employment assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crookshank Elementary School, along with The Webster School, Southwood and Osceola elementaries, currently provides this service to local families. Each Head Start classroom is taught by a dual certified and degreed teacher and serves students aged three through five. All donated items will benefit Head Start and all Early Childhood classes at Crookshank Elementary School.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
