A: All 14 points are common sense, really. For instance, let\u2019s keep natural buffers so our community looks the same. If clear cutting can\u2019t be eliminated, why not just leave a natural buffer instead of clearcutting and then having to go to the trouble of replanting (but with immature trees)? A homebuilder once told me, \u201cTrees sell houses,\u201d so this could be part of their marketing plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Q: What are some other important elements?<\/strong>
A: Currently, when a mature tree needs to be removed for development, the fines are very low. We need to raise the fines to the market value of replacing the tree. Also, right now developers can clear cut in advance of building, sometimes by four years. This causes the loss of wildlife habitat and ecosystem for years before building even takes place. Let\u2019s make the land clearing take place right before development to avoid this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A: A discussion of tree protections will be on the March meeting agenda. After that, we can forward to legal and growth management any proposed changes to the land development code for their input. Then, it will come back to the Board of County Commissioners for readings and a vote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A: For February, we will have the proposed comprehensive plan and a new concurrency ordinance for commercial development, among other items.
